Juan O. MESQUIDA is Associate Professor of History at the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Asia and the Pacific, Pasig City. He has done extensive research on different aspects of the confraternity of Holy Mercy of Manila during the Spanish period. These include the study of poor relief activities, kinship and social capital, material culture, and charitable endowments and investments. His research has been published in journals and as chapters in multi-author books. He was recently one of the editors and contributors of a multi-author book about the seventeenth century everyday life in the Philippines.
